Special
Services
Special Education
has been designed to provide a meaningful program within which the
individual can develop personally, socially and vocationally for
todays technical and global society. Such instruction includes
a combination of academic subjects, vocational experiences and on-the-job
training. The curriculum is geared to meet the student at his or
her level of ability. Students retain their class distinction and
graduate upon the completion of their program.
It is our policy
to integrate all students through full inclusion into the main flow
of education, providing appropriate support and modifications in
the least restrictive environment. A number of certified special
education teachers, educational technicians and support services
from outside agencies provide additional support.
It is our belief
that education does not end with high school graduation. Each student
in the program is assisted by the Pupil Evaluation Team (PET), which
consists of parents, teachers, administrators, special education
and guidance staff, various evaluators, outside agencies and the
student involved. The transition process begins in the eighth grade
and continues through the completion of the Individual Education
Program (IEP). PET members work with the student to develop and
modify a five-year plan to help the individual aspire to their full
potential in terms of independent living, employable skills, advanced
training or education beyond high school, and responsible citizenship.
